I have been an animal rights advocate for many years and for the past few years have done a great deal of tabling. Sadly, in recent years, many people approach our tables and tell me that they only eat happy meat. Some even say that they used to be a vegetarian but now feel comfortable eating happy meat or consuming eggs and milk from happy hens and cows.

This new website looks like it will be a very helpful teaching and inspirational resource... I have been constantly trying to 'centre' my own advocacy attempts around an intuitive version of 'critical thinking' and 'creative rigor', without actually having an educational background in how an awareness of such terms can really help. It's helpful to see "critical thinking" articulated.

Here in Italy, and I think throughout Europe as well, we have more or less the same problems, and it is increasingly difficult to talk about animal rights when animal rights organizations give awards to the food industry for producing "good eggs", for instance.

Oh, wow... I am just so glad to discover this site. I agree that this humane myth is so pervasive among the most "progressive" and "environmentally concerned" activists. It's surely the greatest long-term threat to the animal rights movement. You folks are a true inspiration. THANK YOU!

Great site! I think that right now otherwise compassionate people's acceptance of the humane myth and their ignorance of farmed animals true natures are high among the biggest impediments to them going vegan.

I recently (March '08) made the transition to vegan from a longer-than-expected term of lacto-ovo vegetarianism.
